Do you remember your first time?

This week I was scrolling on social media when I came across a video that went something like this:

Imagine you commute to a new place. The first time you are highly conscious of everything along the way, and the 30 minutes it takes you to get there feels like 30 minutes, perhaps more. But if you take that same road many times, eventually your mind goes on autopilot and sometimes you don't even feel the time pass.

This video really hit me. I often find myself making remarks like "time flies!" and "I can't believe the year is almost over." I’m sure I'm not alone on this and many of you feel the same way.

The point the video was trying to make was less about commuting than it was about our perception of time. It was pointing out that we stopped seeking new experiences. We frequent the same places, watch the same type of shows, and talk to the same people. As adults, we are cemented in our routines and years feel like months, months like weeks, and so on and so forth.

Now, compare that to when you were a child and everything was new to you. Days and weeks felt like an eternity!

Thanks to the video, I spent some time  thinking about all my "firsts." The first time I rode a bicycle, the first time I remember being in school, and the first time I left home.

Take a look at the images I pulled from my gallery and tell me if you remember:

Your first crush…

Home, 2024.

Your first job…

San Luis Obispo, 2026.

Your first concert…

Ft. Lauderdale, 2025.

Your first sip of an alcoholic drink…

New Orleans, 2025.

Your first visit to the zoo…

San Diego, 2026.

Now, ask yourself what new "first" you'd like to experience. Call it a bucket list or call it something else. Either way, I hope you get to cross them all off your list.

Until next time,

JG
